Maintaining Intestinal Health With The Use of Probiotics

LactoSpore

What is LactoSpore?

  • LactoSpore is a superior probiotic, which is room-temperature stable and does not require refrigeration
  • Sabinsa’s LactoSpore is a spore of probiotic bacterium, Bacillus coagulans formerly known as Lactobacillus sporogenes
  • Sabinsa’s LactoSpore is Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS)

What is probiotics?

  • Probiotics are live microorganisms, which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host. (Guidelines for the Evaluation of Probiotics in Food, FAO/WHO)
  • Probiotics support the immune system, digestive system and general health

What live organisms are in probiotics?

  • Non-pathogenic or “good” bacteria
  • Probiotic microbes are assessed by the selection criteria of Guidelines for the Evaluation of Probiotics in Food (FAO/WHO, 2002)

What are the base requirements for good bacteria as functional probiotics?

  • Identification at strain level of the microorganism by the most current methodology including a combination of phenotypic and genetic tests
  • Strains must be deposited in an internationally recognized culture collection
  • in vitro tests to detect physiological and functional health potentials of the strain
  • In vivo trials to confirm efficacy in humans and animals

Does LactoSpore satisfy these base requirements?

  • Yes,LactoSpore meets base requirements of probiotics for food and it is superior to other probiotics:
  • The strain of Bacillus coagulans is characterized by an external research laboratory: phenotypically and genetically
  • The strain of Bacillus coagulans has 99.5% of homology with Bacillus coagulans ATCC 7050 (The American Type Culture Collection serves as a worldwide repository and distribution center for cultures of standard reference microorganisms)
  • In vivo studies revealed probiotic properties of Bacillus coagulans, such as resistant spore to adverse environment, adherence capacity to intestinal mucosa, inhibitory activity against harmful bacteria and resistance to harsh conditions of manufacturing processes<\li>
  • Oral administration of Bacillus coagulans improved daily weight gain and mortality in chickens and piglets and inhibited vancomycin-resistant enterococci colonization in mice
  • In humans, a preparation of Bacllus coagulans alleviated clinical symptoms of a variety of health conditions including chronic and acute catarrhal enteritis, diarrhea, constipation, abnormal intestinal fermentation, dyspepsia infantum, neonatal diarrhea, lactose intolerance, non-specific vaginitis and urinary tract infections

Why is LactoSpore superior to other probiotics?

  • Bacillus coagulans is the only spore-forming probiotic. Spore-forming gram- positive bacteria including Bacillus coagulans form a spore, a temporary non-reproductive structure, which consists of the entire hereditary information enveloped by a resistant outer coating. Spores can survive without nutrients and they are extremely resistant to adverse factors, such as ultraviolet radiation, desiccation, high temperature, freezing and chemicals. Spores can survive for extended periods because of resistance. They reactivate to the vegetative form when the environment is favorable
  • Therefore, LactoSpore
  • Maintains viability during preparation and storage until consumption
  • Keeps viability during the manufacturing process
  • Survives the acidity of stomach and bile acids and digestive enzymes
  • Germinates in the intestine, which is favorable for Bacillus coagulans spore reactivation

Does the vegetative form inhabit in the intestine?

  • No, the vegetative form of Bacillus coagulans is transient. In other words, the bacterium does not inhabit the intestine permanently.

How long does the bacterium stay at the intestine?

  • It is dose-dependent. Healthy adults who were administered 2.5g of probiotics containing 108 spores of Bacillus coagulans per gram daily for 10 days were free of the bacterium at the 6th day after the treatment was discontinued (Hashimo, K. et al (1964) New Drugs and Clinics 13 (9): 53-66

What are the probiotic functionalities of the vegetative form of Bacillus coagulans?

  • Restricts the growth of harmful microbes competing for nutrients and environment in the gut
  • Generates the acidic microenvironment that is harmful for manypathogenic or “bad” microbes by fermenting polysaccharides
  • Produces bacteriocin-like substances
  • Produces L(+) lactic acid only
  • Helps lactose-intolerance
  • Promotes the innate and adaptive immunity
  • Alleviates digestive discomforts
  • Supports the liver
  • Prevents colonic dysbacteriosis that is caused by antibiotic therapy, surgery, chemo or radiation therapies and unhealthy diets

LactoSpore primarily promotes the healthy digestive tract. Therefore, LactoSpore relieves and complements therapies of conditions:

  • Diarrhea*
  • Dysbacteriosis*
  • Lactose intolerance*
  • Digestive discomfort (flatulence, indigestion, cramps, heart burn, bloating and stomach pain)*

How To Make Your Nutrients More Available In Your Body

Bioperine is a black pepper extract that can be used to make nutrients more available in one’s body.

What is Bioperine?

  • BioPerine is a natural ingredient, which significantly improves bioavailability and benefits of nutritive compounds
  • BioPerine is a patented standardized extract from the fruits of Piper nigrum (black pepper)
  • BioPerine is GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe)

What is the active ingredient?

  • The active ingredient is piperine, a pungent alkaloid

How pure is BioPerine?

  • BioPerine contains 95 to 99% pure piperine

Why is BioPerine superior to black pepper?

  • Piperine content in BioPerine is much higher (95-99% pure piperine) than it is in black pepper; Piperine is only 3-9% in all parts of black pepper
  • A standardized extract allows a wide range of applications other than the traditional use of black pepper

What are the potential nutraceutical benefits of BioPerine?

  • BioPerine offers a wide range of health benefits. Improving the bioavailablity of nutritional substances is the primary benefit among them

How does piperine enhance the bioavailability of nutritive substances?

There are a few theories about BioPerine’s mechanism of action:

  • Piperine interferes with substance-converting enzymes, such as UDP-glucuronyltransferase in the small intestine and liver. The excretion of the nutritional ingredients by the kidneys is blocked because the natural state of the nutritional ingredients is less soluble and their excretion through the urine is less efficient
  • Vanilloid receptors are G protein coupled and highly expressed on afferent neurons of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Piperine binding to vanilloid receptors activates membrane‐bound adenyl cyclase, which catalyzes the synthesis of the second messenger molecule cAMP. cAMP activates protein kinase A (PKA) that inhibits intestinal motility and dilates blood vessels of the intestine. This physiological action may cause better digestion and absorption
  • Piperine is likely to facilitate the absorption of nutrients interacting with the ultrastructure of intestinal brush border and stimulating digestive enzymes

What nutritional ingredients’ bioavailability is enhanced by BioPerine?

BioPerine has been shown to enhance the bioavailability of the following groups of nutrients in humans and animals:

  • Resveratrol
  • Herbal extracts (curcumin, ashwaganda, capsaicin, Gingko biloba)
  • Water soluble vitamins (vitamin B1, B2, B6, B12, niacinamide, folic acid and vitamin C)
  • Fat-soluble vitamins (vitamin A, D, E and K)
  • Antioxidants (vitamin A, C, E,alpha-‐carotene, transbeta‐carotene, lycopene, lutein/zeaxantin, pine bark bioflavanoids complex, germanium, selenium and zinc)
  • Amino acids (lysine, isoleucine, leucine, threonine, valine, tryptophan, phenylalanine and methionine)
  • Minerals (calcium, iron, zinc, vanadium, selenium, chromium, iodine, potassium, manganese, copper and magnesium)

Is the bioavailability of all of these ingredients tested in humans?

The bioavailability of resveratrol, selenomethionine, vitamin B6 and C, CoQ10, beta carotene and curcumin were evaluated in humans with the administration of Sabinsa’s BioPerine as follows:

  • One group of people took the ingredients with BioPerine
  • The other group took the ingredients alone
  • The blood levels of the ingredients were significantly higher among those who have taken the ingredients with BioPerine.
  • The study was conducted in the US among healthy volunteers

What about piperine’s impact on drug bioavailability?

  • Piperine may or may not affect drug bioavailability. For instance, piperine improves the bioavailability of ampicillin and norfloxacin, which are antibiotics with low oral bioavailability. It certainly depends on drug chemistry and pharmacokinetics. Therefore, this should be discussed with your physician or health care provider

What are the other physiological effects of piperine?

Extensive data is collected reporting black pepper’s health benefits other than natural bioenhancer properties, such as

  • Antidepressant *
  • Antiapoptotic *
  • Antioxidant *
  • Anti-platelet effect *
  • Asthma relieving *
  • Anti-inflammatory activity *
  • Antihypertensive effect *
  • Hepatoprotective effect *
  • Antithyroid effect *
  • Fertility enhancer *
  • Antitumor activity *

Is the plant sustainably harvested?

  • Yes, piperine is extracted from sustainably‐grown Piper nigrum

Is BioPerine GMO?

  • No, BioPerine is not genetically-modified

What about Allergen‐free, Kosher and Halal certifications?

  • Sabinsa’s most ingredients are Kosher and Halal certified as well as Allergen free

Is BioPerine an ODI (Old Dietary Ingredient)?

  • Yes, BioPerine is an Old Dietary Ingredient.
  • BioPerine can therefore be marketed immediately, without the need for pre‐market NDI notification

What is the suggested daily dose?

  • The suggested dose is 5 mg 3 times daily.

Citrin: Clear the standard for (-)HCA

What is Citrin?

In 1991, Citrin was introduced to the health food industry as the first all-natural plant extract standardized for hydroxycitric acid.  This unique extract comes from premium, hand-harvested, Garina cambogia fruits grown int he selected regions of southern India.  The active principle of Citrin, hydroxycitric acid, is in the rind of the Garcinia cambogia.

What is HCA?

HCA stands for (-)-hydroxycitric acid.  Hoffman-LaRoche, an international pharmaceutical company, and Brandeis Universityresearchers began investigating HCA in the early 1970’s.  THey found that the (-) form of HCA was a potent and competitive inhibitor of citrate lyase, an enzyme found primarily in the liver which is vital in regulating fat metabolism.

How does HCA work?

Fatty acids are the building blocks of fats and lipids.  At the cellular level, (-) HCA molecules trick the citrate lyase enzyme.  The receptor sites of citrate lyase enzymes are filled with (-) HCA.  This means fewer fatty acids are synthesized, making less fat available for the cellular storage.  This results in less body fat build-up in the liver and adipose (fat) tissue.  Increased amounts of energy at the celluar level are then available to more rapidly degrade free fatty acids.

Is this all?

No….(-) HCA suppresses the app

Top Reasons To Use A High Quality Curcumin Supplement

When it comes choosing the correct curcumin supplement, you want to make sure that the one you chose is of the highest quality.  There are to many low-quality curcumin supplements that are being sold today.  Therefore, here are the top 10 things to look for when you want to buy a curcumin supplement

  1.  Make sure that it has a patent.  When the curcumin that you buy has a patent, that means it is very high quality.  For example, the curcumin that we use in our curcumin product  is patent number 5,861,415.  As you can see our founder’s name, Dr. Majeed’s, name is on the patent.
  2.

  3.  Make sure that it is derived from a standardized extract of turmeric root ( 95% Curcuminoids C3 complex) which are known to both prevent the formation of free radicals and to neutralize existing free radicals, making them dual-action “bio-protectants”.
  4. Safety.  Be sure that the curcumin has been reviewed and acknowledge by the USFDA for GRAS status, a process which includes a comprehensive review of safey and toxicology data.

  5.  When possible make sure the curcumin is co-administered with Bioperine ( 20mg), because it supports an enhanced effect without any adverse side effects.
